Ciao Heiko

Ci ha lasciato l’amico Heiko Bleher! Così, all’improvviso, lasciandoci tutti sgomenti ed increduli!

Poco meno di un paio di mesi fa, ci aveva contattato per proporci di organizzare con lui una nuova edizione di “Mediterranea Discus”, il campionato internazionale che per 5 edizioni la nostra associazione ha organizzato a Lecce. L’estate e le vacanze un po’ per tutti erano alle porte e quindi ci eravamo lasciati promettendoci di risentirci a Settembre per iniziare a programmare il nuovo evento. Era determinato come sempre. Diceva: “non mollo mai”. Era tosto Heiko. Una testa dura e sempre pieno di energia da vendere.

Aveva amici ovunque e, purtroppo, anche tanti pseudo-amici o amici per opportunità che si ricordavano di lui solo per interessi personali… e lui lo sapeva bene… I suoi viaggi in tutto il mondo, in primis nella sua amata Amazzonia, erano la sua vita. Si vantava di aver esplorato centinaia di Paesi, negli angoli più sperduti del globo. Qualche viaggio lo abbiamo anche fatto assieme ed era sempre piacevole ascoltare i suoi racconti sulle sue avventure più disparate. Eppure fino a qualche anno fa mi diceva che c’era un Paese che io conoscevo bene e che lui non aveva ancora avuto occasione di visitare, l’Albania. Voleva che andassimo insieme. Non ho mai esaudito il suo desiderio e me ne rammarico. Mi ripromettevo che prima o poi ci saremmo andati. Inconsciamente lo consideravo immortale e quindi il tempo per organizzare il viaggio ci sarebbe sempre stato. Mi sbagliavo, ed ora è troppo tardi! Spero che nel frattempo sia riuscito comunque a scoprire la Terra delle Aquile e ad aggiungere anch’essa alla sua già lunghissima lista.

Ci lascia un amico vero, un uomo che stimavamo sinceramente; un uomo che nonostante potesse sembrare presuntuoso o arrogante tanto da essere apertamente criticato da molti, era fondamentalmente una bravissima persona. Ci lascia un uomo che ha fatto la storia dell’acquariologia e dell’acquariofilia mondiale; un uomo che con le sue esplorazioni ha permesso la scoperta di tanti esseri viventi che contribuiscono alla biodiversità del nostro Pianeta. I suoi libri, le sue conferenze, le sue foto e video, hanno fatto sognare ad occhi aperti milioni di appassionati che, grazie anche a lui, hanno continuato ad amare e a vivere con più entusiasmo l’hobby dell’acquariofilia.

Il sottoscritto e tutti gli amici del Gruppo Acquariofilo Salentino (G.A.S.) si stringono con un forte abbraccio alla amata figlia Amanda e a tutti i suoi cari più intimi che, pur nelle difficoltà che la vita ci porta ad affrontare, hanno continuato a volergli bene fino alla fine.

Il Gruppo Acquariofilo Salentino (G.A.S.) si ripromette di organizzare in futuro un evento tributo in suo onore!

Our friend Heiko Bleher passed away! So suddenly, leaving us all shocked and incredulous!

Just less than two months ago, he contacted us to propose organising a new edition of ‘Mediterranea Discus’ with him, the international championship that our association has organised in Lecce for five editions. Summer and holidays were just about to begin for everyone, so we left each other promising to get back in touch in September to start planning the new event. He was determined as always. He used to say, ‘I never give up’. Heiko was tough. He was stubborn and always full of energy.

He had friends everywhere and, unfortunately, also many pseudo-friends or friends of convenience who only came to him when it suited their own interests… And he knew it well… His travels around the world, primarily in his beloved Amazon, were his life. He boasted of having explored hundreds of countries in the most remote corners of the globe. We even took a few trips together, and it was always enjoyable to listen to his stories about his various adventures. Yet, until a few years ago, he told me that there was a country that I knew well and that he had not yet had the opportunity to visit: Albania. He wanted us to go together. I never fulfilled his wish, and I regret it. I promised myself that sooner or later we would go. Unconsciously, I considered him immortal, and so there would always be time to organise the trip. I was wrong, and now it’s too late! I hope that in the meantime he managed to discover the “Land of Eagles” and add it to his already long list of explored countries.

A true friend has passed away, a man we sincerely esteemed. A person who, despite appearing presumptuous or arrogant to the point of being openly criticised by many, was fundamentally a very good man. A man who made history in the world of aquariology and aquarium keeping; a man whose explorations led to the discovery of many living creatures that contribute to the biodiversity of our planet. His books, lectures, photos and videos have inspired millions of enthusiasts who, thanks to him, have continued to love and enjoy the hobby of aquarium keeping with even greater enthusiasm.

I and all my friends at the Salento Aquarium Group (G.A.S.) of Lecce (Italy) send our deepest condolences to his beloved daughter Amanda and all his closest family members who, despite the difficulties that life brings us, continued to love him until the end.
